David Prowse Will Not Be At Celebration V

The actor who brought Darth Vader to life in the Original Star Wars trilogy, Dave Prowse has been asked by Lucasfilm not to appear at Star Wars Celebration V, according to a post on the Official Dave Prowse Website.

It is with regret that I have been informed by my friends at C2 Ventures, Ben and Phillip, that I am not to be invited to C5 this year or any other Lucas Film associated events. After enquiring, the only thing I have been told is that I have "burnt too many bridges between Lucas Film and myself" - no other reason given.

According to Phillip Wise of TheForce.net this does actually seem to be the case. "Lucasfilm does have the right to prevent celebrity invitations to official Star Wars conventions and they did exercise this right as it relates to Dave Prowse and Celebration V."
From our research the rift between Mr. Prowse and Lucasfilm stems from a dispute over net profits from 1983's Return Of The Jedi. The entire situation is quite unfortunate considering that the entire stated purpose behind Celebration V is to remember the momentous achievement of Empire Strikes Back. It really makes you wonder what Empire Strikes Back, or Return Of The Jedi for that matter, would have been like without the sinister and larger than life physical portrayal of Darth Vader by Mr. Prowse.

New Last Tour To Endor Details

Disney parks has just released new details about the special, Last Tour To Endor event that is being held at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Disney World, August 14th 2010. This special Star Wars Celebration V event is going to be huge. There have already been a lot of details revealed like a Star Wars-themed fireworks show, a “Death Star Disco,” live entertainment and Disney Characters. Today Disney parks announced that a special edition of Hyperspace Hoopla(an event normally reserved for STAR WARS WEEKENDS)will entertain guests on the "Last Tour." Here's the update from the Disney Parks blog:

-”Grease is the word” that Chewie heard: Chewbacca, Han Solo and the Jawas put on their dancing shoes (except Chewbacca of course, who will be frantically moving his furry feet) and perform a tune from the 1978 hit movie-musical “Grease.” In fact, Rebel spies have provided initial intel that Chewbacca’s fur will be fashioned into a 1950’s pompadour hairstyle just for the occasion.

-“Nobody puts Leia in a corner”: Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia will go back to the 1980s with a dance number from the box-office hit “Dirty Dancing.”
-“Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it”: Some of the most famous females from the Star Wars saga — including Queen Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, Zam Wessel and Aurra Sing — will join forces for an ensemble dance number set to one of the biggest pop hits by the “material girl” herself, Madonna
.

-King of Pop, or King of the Dark Side?: Returning by popular demand will be Darth Vader and his crew of dancing stormtroopers, cutting a rug (and no, not cutting it with a light saber) to a hit medley from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. At previous “Hyperspace Hooplas,” the Dark Lord has been known to even don a single, sequined glove as he channels the iconic music superstar.

"Lost" McQuarrie Star Wars Art Heads To Celebration V

As we get closer to the August 12th kick off Star Wars celebration V in Orlando Florida, more and more details about guests and events are pouring in. Todays big news is that a collection of "lost" Ralph McQuarrie art that hasn't been seen since the production of the original Star Wars Trilogy in the 1980's. This collection will be the center piece in an exhibit showcasing the master works of this celebrated Star Wars artist. It's actually quite an interesting story how the lost art was...lost in the first place. From the L.A. Times Hero Complex blog, is that little story...

In the months after the lavish, 400-page retrospective "The Art of Ralph McQuarrie" was published in 2007, the illustrator was dealing with a far more mundane life event as a repair team came to his house to deal with a failing furnace. Steve Sansweet, the Lucasfilm director of content management and head of fan relations, said the homeowner nuisance delivered a moment of archival serendipity.

"We thought that we had seen all of Ralph’s 'Star Wars' work here at Lucasfilm — literally hundreds of production paintings, matte paintings and sketches, all carefully photographed, inventoried and preserved," Sansweet said. "But because his home furnace needed to be repaired a few years ago, and a forgotten bookshelf unit had to be moved to let the repairman get at it, Ralph discovered an old box on a shelf that was filled with the treasures."

It was too late to put them in the art book, but now Lucasfilm has incorporated these "lost" pieces into a McQuarrie masterworks exhibit that will be staged at Celebration V in Orlando, Fla., in August. There will be reproductions of 100 pieces from McQuarrie's personal collection -- design work on characters, creatures, spacecraft, weapons and worlds. There are numerous thumbnail sketches and original pencil drawings, such as the one at the top, that were used in the making of the now iconic "Star Wars" production paintings, Christmas cards and other items.
